Volleyball opens 2017 slate with Hampton Inn Invitational

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell volleyball head coach Greg Goral has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2017 season.

The slate features four tournaments, including the annual Hampton Inn Holly Springs Invitational. CU will also travel to tournaments hosted by George Mason, North Texas, and Maryland-Eastern Shore.

"I think our schedule lays out well for us this season," stated Goral. "We have several challenging matches in the preseason and an opportunity to develop our team chemistry. We will have to be running on all cylinders when we open Big South Conference play as we have some quality opponents the first several weeks. With many quality starters returning and an infusion of talented freshmen, I am excited to see what this team can achieve this fall."

Campbell opens the season at home for the first time under Goral. The Camels welcome The Citadel, North Carolina Central, and Tennessee Tech in the Hampton Inn Holly Springs Invitational, August 25-26.

After the Invitational, the Camels will head to Fairfax, Va. for their second tournament of the year, hosted by George Mason, Sept. 1-2. CU returns home Sept. 5 against UNCW at 7 p.m. before heading out for three weeks of away competition.

During that span, Campbell will travel to Denton, Texas for the North Texas Challenge. It will take on Mississippi Valley (Sept. 8, 5 p.m.), Oregon State (Sept. 9, 1 p.m.), and North Texas (8 p.m.). In the midweek, the Camels travel to North Carolina A&T for a 6:30 p.m. contest, Sept. 12.

Maryland-Eastern Shore hosts the last non-conference tournament of the season, Sept. 15-16 in Princess Anne, Md., hosted by. The Camels will take on Coppin State (Sept. 15, 4 p.m.), Delaware State (Sept. 16, 2 p.m.), and Maryland-Eastern Shore (Sept. 16, 6 p.m.).

Campbell begins conference play on the road Sept. 22 at UNC Asheville at 7 p.m. and Sept. 23 at Winthrop at 4 p.m.

CU returns to the friendly confines for five of its next six Big South contests, beginning Sept. 26 against High Point (7 p.m.) and Sept. 29 versus Radford (7 p.m.). It will head to Charleston Southern on Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. before returning home for three straight matches.

Campbell will host Liberty (Oct. 6, 7 p.m.), Winthrop (Oct. 10, 7 p.m.), and Presbyterian (Oct. 14, 12 p.m.). The Orange and Black will stay on the road for the rest of October, beginning Oct. 20 at Gardner-Webb (7 p.m.). The Camels will continue at Presbyterian Oct. 21 (1 p.m.), Oct. 27 at High Point (7 p.m.), and Oct. 28 at Liberty (4 p.m.).

The season concludes with 3-of-4 at home, starting Nov. 3 against Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m. Campbell welcomes UNC Asheville on Nov. 4 (2 p.m.), travels to Radford on Nov. 7 (7 p.m.) and finishes the regular season against Charleston Southern, Oct. 11 (4 p.m.).

Radford hosts the 2017 Big South Championship in Radford, Va. Nov. 17-19, at the Donald N. Dedmon Center.
