2017 Campbell Women's Soccer Schedule

BUIES CREEK, N.C. --
Campbell women's soccer co-head coaches Stuart Horne and Samar Azem have announced the full 2017 schedule. The fall slate features two preseason exhibitions, nine home contests and nine away matches.

The Fighting Camels will return to the Eakes Athletic Complex Wednesday, Aug. 9 as they host the Davidson Wildcats at 4 p.m. in a preseason exhibition match. Three days later, CU will take a short trip north as they close preseason exhibition play at UNC Greensboro on Saturday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m.

Campbell will open the regular season on the road against the College of Charleston on Friday, Aug. 18. It will be the first matchup between the two programs since their days in the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC). In seven matchups from 1993-97, the Camels posted a 5-0-2 record against the Cougars with a 29-3 goal-scoring advantage.

The Camels' regular season home-opener is set for Sunday, Aug. 20 at 4 p.m. as the Mountaineers of Appalachian State visit Buies Creek. Campbell most recently faced App. State in 2009, a 2-1 loss for CU. Overall, the Camels own a 5-2-2 series lead over the Mountaineers in nine matchups from 1994-2009.

CU's match versus App. State is the start of a three-match homestand. Campbell will host the Chicago State Cougars Sunday, Aug. 27, followed by a home match on Thursday, Aug. 31 against the East Carolina Pirates. After going 1-16-0 last season, the Cougars most recently named Kevin Meek as their new head coach. The Pirates went 5-12-1 last year, including a 1-7-1 record in American Athletic Conference play.

Campbell's second road contest of the season is set for Saturday, Sep. 2 at South Carolina State, kicking off at 7 p.m. in Orangeburg, S.C. The Camels have never surrendered a goal to the Bulldogs, outscoring SCSU 12-0 in five matches from 2009-2015.

Six days later, the Camels will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on the American Eagles. Last season, CU defended home turf against AU with a 4-1 victory as Campbell alumna Payton Ormsby tallied two goals and one assist.

Campbell will host its final two non-conference home matches against Howard and Western Carolina, with the contests set for Monday, Sep. 11 and Friday, Sep. 15, respectively. The Bison are coming off a regular-season SWAC Championship as HU posted a 13-4-3 record in 2016, including a 9-0-1 mark in conference play. The Catamounts, who finished 8-12-0 last season, hold a close 3-2 series edge over the Camels as they defeated CU, 2-0 in 2015.

CU closes non-conference play Sunday, Sep. 17 at 2 p.m. at UNCW. The Camels will look to snap a five-match losing skid against the Seahawks as the squads have faced each other every year since 2012.

Campbell begins Big South Conference action at Presbyterian on Saturday, Sep. 23 at 1 p.m. The Camels dominated the Blue Hose at home last season, winning 6-2 as returners Alexa Genas, Shelby Denkert and Shannon Wratchford each scored goals for CU.

The Camels' BSC home-opener is set for Wednesday, Sep. 27 at 7 p.m. as the Radford Highlanders come to the Creek. CU most recently hosted Radford in the 2016 Big South Quarterfinals, where Genas tallied two goals to lead the Camels past the Highlanders, 2-0.

The UNC Asheville Bulldogs will visit the Eakes Complex on Saturday, Sep. 30 at 6 p.m. Trailing 1-0 at UNCA last season, Ormsby notched the game-tying and game-winning goals in a 2-1 winning effort over the Bulldogs.

During the first week of October, the Camels will take a two-match Big South road trip to Virginia as they face Longwood and Liberty on Wednesday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 7, respectively. The Lancers will host CU at 7:00 p.m., while Campbell's match against the defending Big South Champions of Liberty will kickoff at 6:00 p.m.

CU's final homestand will come the following week. Campbell hosts Charleston Southern on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m., while Senior Night will be against Gardner-Webb at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The Camels will close the regular season with back-to-back road contests against High Point and Winthrop. CU will face the Panthers on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. and finish the regular season in Rock Hill, S.C. against the Eagles at 1 p.m.

Following the end of conference play, the top-8 teams will go on to the Big South Quarterfinals, with the top-4 seeds hosting at their respective home sites from Friday through Sunday, Oct. 27-29. The Big South Semifinal will come the following Friday, Nov. 3, while the Big South Final is slated for Sunday, Nov. 5.
