BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell head coach Cary Kolat has been named co-head coach of the United States Women's Team for the upcoming 2017 World Championships in Paris, France.
Kolat will be joined by former Oklahoma State head coach John Smith. The 2017 World Championships will be held August 21-26.
Kolat enters his fourth season at the helm at Campbell, guiding the Camels to the 2017 Southern Conference Championship. CU sent a school record five student-athletes to the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo., where Nathan Kraisser became the first All-American in program history.
In addition to being a two-time NCAA Division I wrestling champion and four-time All-American as a competitor, Kolat brings a bevy of international experience to the 2017 World Championships. Kolat competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and is a three-time World Cup gold medalist, also taking World silver and bronze medals.
His career also includes three U.S. Open championship medals and a pair of Pan-Am Games first-place finishes. Kolat was a member of the U.S. National Team from 1991-2002. In the summer of 2011, Kolat returned to competitive wrestling, was a finalist at the U.S. Open and competed in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.
He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in June 2017.
