BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Winthrop scored four times and held Campbell scoreless in the first 14 minutes before taking the 17-9 win at Barker-Lane Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Taelar Errington scored twice and added an assist, while Brittany Kincer racked up 13 saves on their senior day. The duo, along with Cloey Henchcliffe and Lauren Frick, were honored before the opening draw.
The Eagles (4-9, 1-2) blazed to a 4-0 lead as four different players scored in the opening 14 minutes.
The teams traded two goals each in the remainder of the half, as Hitch netted her second and Errington tallied her first. Winthrop took the 6-4 lead into intermission.
The Eagles opened the second with another run, this time stringing three together to go ahead 9-4 six minutes into the half.
Maddy Dolinar's free position goal stopped the sprint with the fifth Camel goal with 22:20 left on the clock.
Each side scored three goals in the ensuing 12:21 as the Eagles maintained the 12-8 lead, which they would never lose.
Winthrop tacked on three goals in a row in just over three minutes to take a 15-8 lead with 8:11 remaining.
Armiger netted the final CU goal with 7:43 before the Eagles notched their final two to take the 17-9 lead.
Kincer's 13 saves upped her season total to 88, moving to a 42.1 save percentage.
Winthrop held the edge with shots (37-16), ground balls (23-16), and draw controls (15-13).
The Camels are back in action Sunday, visiting Longwood for a 1 p.m. draw. The final CU regular season home game is Wednesday, as the Camels host St. Mary's at 7 p.m.
