Camels suffer first loss, 24-12 to Longwood
BUIES CREEK, N.C. – In the first women's lacrosse league match of Big South Conference history, Campbell fell to Longwood 24-12 in Buies Creek.
Three Camels scored three goals apiece as the Camels moved to 1-1 in their inaugural season. Campbell put away eight goals in the first half and four in the second while the Lancers netted 12 in each half.
Junior Cloey Henchcliffe and freshmen Erica Hitch and Loren Day each scored three times in the match. Freshman Kaki Armiger added two and junior Taelar Errington netted one to give the Camels 12 total.
The Lancers' Mary Barondess earned the first goal of the game in the second minute. Day answered less than 20 seconds later to tie the score. The teams traded goals for much of the half, until Longwood pulled away 12-8 with five minutes left in the first.
The Fighting Camels couldn't overcome the deficit, scoring four goals after the break to Longwood's 12.
Lancer Kacey Norwood paced Longwood with seven goals and two assists on the night. Katie McHugh added four tallies and two assists.
Defensively for the Camels, junior goalkeeper Brittany Kincer stopped seven Lancer shots on the night.
The Camels are back in action Tuesday, March 5 at Barker-Lane Stadium as they take on St. Joseph's in a 7 p.m. match. It is the only home action the Fighting Camels will see in March, as they begin a seven-game road slate March 8.
