Schisler named Big South Player of the Year; four named to all-conference team

CHARLOTTE, N.C.Amber Schisler leads four Camels on the 2017 Big South All-Conference teams, announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. The all-conference teams are voted on by the league's head coaches and the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year is voted on by the Big South's sports information directors.

Schisler was named the Big South Player of the Year for her performances throughout the 2017 campaign. She also was named to the first team all-conference in the designated player position.

Taesha DuBoise was also named to the first team all-conference as one of three outfielders on the team. Senior pitcher Katie Baker and senior catcher Bailey Bjorson were named the honorable mention all-conference team. Baker was also named to the all-academic team for Campbell.

Schisler finished first in the Big South in batting average (.430), slugging percentage (.839), on-base percentage (.599), runs (43), home runs (17), and walks (45). At Campbell, she sits top five in career home runs (33) and batting average (.408). She was named the Big South Player of the Week twice in 2017. Schisler received four first-place votes, tallying a total of 26 points, 16 ahead of Liberty's Amber Bishop.

DuBoise completed the season top-10 in the Big South in batting average (.328), seventh in runs scored (35), sixth in total hits (58), and tied for first in triples (4). DuBoise completed the season as a mainstay in the outfield for the Camels, recording 65 putouts on the season and a .961 fielding percentage.

Baker broke the school record in career strikeouts during the season and currently has 574 in her career. She sits 10th in the league in ERA (3.21), fifth in opposing batting average (.235), second in innings pitched (179.0), sixth in strikeouts (105) and third in wins (15). She leads the Campbell pitching staff in ERA, wins, opposing batting average, starts, and appearances. Also named to the Big South All-Academic team, boasting a 3.77 GPA while balancing softball and nursing classes/practical, real world assesments. 

Behind the plate, Bjorson is fourth in the Big South in runners picked off, eighth in fielding percentage (.990), and sixth in runners caught stealing (8). During 2017 for the Camels, Bjorson finished second in sac bunts, third in home runs per game, third in chances (209), and second in putouts (189). In her Campbell career, she sits top-five in putouts and top-ten in fielding percentage.

Campbell is the No. 2 seed in the 2017 Big South tournament and will begin play May 11 at 2:30 p.m. The Camels will take on the winner of No. 3 Longwood vs. No. 6 Radford.
