BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Charleston Southern connected on three home runs from two different batters to defeat Campbell 6-4 in Friday's series opener.

Jade Gandara tallied her 16th home run of the year and Lexie Vanada hit two of her own and drove in five to lead the Buccaneers offensively.

Amber Schisler's 3-for-3, two run, three RBI performance, led Campbell's offense Friday evening. Melissa Tullar went 1-for-2, driving in Campbell's fourth run of the contest.

Charleston Southern began the scoring in the top of the first on Gandara's solo shot down the right field line to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

The Camels answered back in the bottom half of the inning as Schisler connected on a three-run home run off the scoreboard in left field, to give CU a 3-1 advantage.

CU's lead grew to three as Tullar's RBI double plated Schisler from second base, putting the Camels ahead 4-1. CSU evened the score at 4-4 on Vanada's three-run home run, her first of the year, in the top of the fourth.

Campbell drew a hit-by-pitch and a pair of walks in the fifth to load the bases with one out, but a pair of strikeouts from Arizona Pilgrim ended the threat.

In the sixth inning, Vanada put the visitors ahead 6-4 with a two-run home run, her second of the day. Campbell only tallied one hit in the final four innings as CSU held for the 6-4 victory.

Pilgrim (7-10) picked up the win in the circle, pitching four innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three. Katie Baker (15-8) took the loss for the Camels, pitching six innings, allowing six runs and striking out four.

Schisler has now reached base in 18 consecutive games and holds an eight game hitting streak. Caroline Smith's single in the first inning pushed her hitting streak to 10 games for the Camels.

Campbell and Charleston Southern will finish their series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Campbell's seven seniors will be honored prior to the beginning of game one. Saturday's opener will can be seen live on ESPN3.
