BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell downed Gardner-Webb in Saturday's rubber match, 5-3, to win its fifth Big South series of the season.
Gardner-Webb's Callie Thornton went 2-for-3, driving in two runs and scoring once. Rachel Cumiskey and Kaylee Wacaster also scored for the visitors.
Schisler opened the scoring in the fourth with a solo home run over the scoreboard in left centerfield to give CU a 1-0 lead. The Camels built their lead in the fourth as Baker helped her own cause with a two-RBI single that scored Taesha DuBoise and Madison Martinez.
CU's 5-0 lead remained intact until the top of the seventh as Callie Thornton drove in two runs with a double to the wall to score Cumiskey and Wacaster. Thornton later scored on a wild pitch in the inning to pull GWU within two, 5-3.
Gardner-Webb had the tying run at the plate with a runner at first, but a lineout to Tullar at first and a diving tag on the runner put two outs on the board. The next batter grounded out to the shortstop to end the contest and clinch the series for Campbell.
Baker (14-7) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and striking out five. Summer Darnell (2-9) went 3.2 innings, allowing five hits and three runs for Gardner-Webb.
Campbell welcomes NC State for its final non-conference game of the season, Wednesday, April 26 at 6 p.m. inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
