Camels and Bulldogs split Friday twinbill

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell and Gardner-Webb combined for 35 runs as they split Friday's doubleheader inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Campbell won game one in extra innings, 7-3, on Megan Mozingo's walk-off grand slam. Gardner-Webb tallied 16 runs to take game two, 16-9.

Game one: Campbell 7, Gardner-Webb 3 [F/8]

Mozingo connected on her first home run of the year, a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the eighth that lifted Campbell to a 7-3 victory in Friday's opener.

Campbell's offense was led by Mozingo's 2-for-3, four RBI and one run performance. Amber Schisler scored twice, going 2-for-4 at the place and Melissa Tullar drove in two runs during her 2-for-3 outing. 

Kaylee Wacaster had the lone multi-hit game for Gardner-Webb, going 2-for-3, scoring once. Wacaster drove in three runs with her three-run home run in the fifth to give GWU a 3-0 lead.

The Camels responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 3-3. Tullar connected on a two-RBI hit that scored Schisler and Caroline Smith. Taesha DuBoise drove in the tying run with her RBI single in the same inning. 

A pair of singles and a walk in the eighth loaded the bases for Mozingo to bring home the victory for Campbell.

Katie Baker (14-7) picked up the complete game win, allowing just five hits and striking out six. Mackenze Thompson (3-13) took the loss in two innings of action, allowing four runs and walking two.

Game two: Campbell 9, Gardner-Webb 16

Gardner-Webb scored 13 runs between the fifth and sixth innings en route to a 16-9 win in Friday's game two inside Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Wacaster went 3-for-4, driving in five runs and scoring twice. Callie Thornton tallied two hits that drove in four runs as well as scoring twice. Megan Champion and Maddi Johnson scored three runs each in the contest for the Runnin' Bulldogs.

Campbell had a quartet of batters that tallied 2-for-4 outings led by Schisler's three RBI, one run game. Tullar drove in two runs for CU,  DuBoise scored twice, and Mozingo added one run for CU.

Gardner-Webb scored eight in the fifth inning to take an 11-6 lead. Champion and Thornton pushed across three runs on back-to-back bases loaded singles, which tied the game. A pair of throwing errors plated two more runs and Wacaster's three-run home run capped the scoring in the inning.

Campbell added two runs in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly from Christa Hall and on Madison Martinez's steal of home. GWU continued its offensive output with five runs in the sixth inning to take a 16-8 lead.

A pair of errors plated three runs for the visitors with one out in the inning, as the lead grew to six. Two more runs scored on Wacaster's single up the middle that scored two runs and gave GWU its 16 runs.

Schisler's 14th home run of the season came in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap to seven, 16-9.

The two sides traded leads in the first half of the game, as each side held a one-run lead through 3.5 innings.

The Camels scored four in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead into the fifth inning. With the bases full, a pitch hit Smith, which scored one. Schisler then plated two with a bases loaded single and Tullar increased the lead to three with her RBI single.

Ashley Wark (7-5) picked up the win for GWU, allowing just two hits in 1.1 innings of work. Holly Brooks (3-7) allowed seven runs in 0.2 innings of work for CU.
