BUIES CREEK, N.C. – For the third time this season, Campbell's Matthew Barefoot has been named the Big South Come Ready Nutrition Freshman of the Week.
Barefoot batted .600 for the week, picking up a hit in all four Campbell games, while driving in four runs. The redshirt freshman went 9-for-15 with a home run, four doubles and four runs.
In Tuesday's 7-2 win over Virginia Tech, Barefoot went 3-for-3, tying a Campbell single game record with three doubles. He also picked up a RBI and scored a run.
In Friday's series opener at Liberty, Barefoot lifted a two run home run in the first inning, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run in the 4-3 loss. On Saturday, the Dunn, N.C. native went 3-for-4 with a RBI and two runs, racking up his 21st double of the season in a 7-4 Campbell win. He added another base hit in Sunday's finale.
For the season, Barefoot bats .368 with 42 RBI on 29 extra-base hits, including 21 doubles and eight home runs.
The Big South weekly honor is the fourth total this season for Barefoot. He was also named BSC Freshman of the Week on March 13 and March 27, earning Big South Player of the Week on March 6.
Campbell heads to Duke on Tuesday, May 9, and North Carolina Central on Wednesday, May 10, before getting back into Big South play at Winthrop May 12-14.
